Pink Sparrow Teamed with Renowned Artist Adam Schwerner on Massive Sustainable Exhibit at LA’s Descanso Gardens. Thousands of pounds of sustainable, upcycled materials have gone into the construction of Your (Un)natural Garden, the latest outdoor exhibit from celebrated artist Adam Schwerner.
For three months, Pink Sparrow worked directly with Schwerner and Art Mafia co-founders Kalie Acheson and Claire McCracken on designing and creating structures for the exhibit, sourcing materials from Schwerner’s go-to recycling facility, Tierra Verde Industries in Orange County. In addition to metal, plastic and found objects, the team collected one 40-yard dumpster of recycled wire and two 40-yard dumpsters of recycled lumber. That’s 40,000 pounds of wood, and if lined end to end the boards would stretch about one-and-a-half miles long.
With these elements, Pink Sparrow built vibrant sculptures throughout the gardens, supporting pieces for interior spaces and one freestanding snakeway arch that’s 28 feet tall, 40 feet long and composed of more than 7,000 pounds of recycled wood, steel, wire, ladders and more.
