Pink Sparrow proudly collaborated with Es Devlin and her team to create the designer’s first retrospective, currently showcased at the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum. “An Atlas of Es Devlin” celebrates Devlin’s illustrious 30-year career, from her formative years to her groundbreaking set designs for Beyonce’s Renaissance tour, U2, Adele, and more.
The exhibition begins with a replica of Devlin’s London office, where visitors are greeted with her reflections on early education, identity, and interdisciplinary creativity. Next, guests encounter the Iris, a stunning display of layered circular arches featuring the names of Devlin’s diverse collaborators.
Moving through the “infinite rooms,” visitors explore Devlin’s creative process through scripts, notes, and projections, illuminating her renowned sets and iconic concerts. Concluding with rotating models of her transformative designs across theater, music, architecture, and activism, the exhibition culminates in a backstage area and half-scale black box theater.
We were proud to be designers of record and the fabricators of this archival show of Es Devlin's visionary journey over the past three decades at the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum, the nation’s premier destination for historic and contemporary design.
